Name: Gx Tron
Tier: Tier 2
Introduction
Gx Tron is a big-mana ramp deck that thrives on the power of the Urza lands to power out big, colorless creatures such as Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, Wurmcoil Engine, and Emrakul, the Promised End. Expedition Map, Sylvan Scrying, and Ancient Stirrings help find and assemble tron as fast as possible. Stirrings also adds an enormous amount of consistency to the deck, as it can also be used to find threats, answers like Oblivion Stone, and sideboard cards like Relic of Progenitus or Chalice of the Void.
Gx Tron is one of the oldest archetypes in Modern’s history. It started out as a “12-Post” deck, but soon evolved to a different variant after Cloudpost was banned for being too consistently powerful. For a long time RG Tron was the de facto consensus build, splashing red mainly for removal purposes. Later versions have turned to black and white for disruption and sideboard flexibility in cards such as Collective Brutality and Rest in Peace.
Gx Tron is one of the true staples of the format, splitting most of its time between Tier 1 or Tier 2. It tends to crush fair decks while struggling against fast combo, which means its stock can shift dramatically depending on metagame.
